02.17.01- Exciting news about Trapped In A Purple Haze from Soaps In Depth!
All My Children, Port Charles and a TV movie starring Jonathan Jackson
(ex-Lucky, GH) all are nominated in the Fifth Annual Prism Awards, which
recognize the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco addiction.
In Jackson's Trapped in a Purple Haze (nominated by The Entertainment
Industry Council in the TV-movie category), the Emmy-winning GH alum played a
high school student under constant pressure from his overbearing mother to
pursue her dream for him instead of his own. Distracted by his wild
girlfriend, Jackson's character fell into a world of drug use, one depicted in
vivid harrowing detail.
The Prism Awards will be presented on Wednesday, April 4.
[There is a picture of Max and Kate from the end of Purple Haze with the caption, "The EIC is high on Jackson's film."]

Check out Meg's page for the interview with her from Guerilla Filmmaker, and the Reviews page for the review from the same magazine. 02.17.01- If you're wondering when Night Visions is going to air on FOX, email ASKFOX@FOX.COM. I've already emailed and they answered with "Sometime in mid-2001." However, perhaps if more people emailed, they'd be more inclined to air it earlier. :o) 02.17.01- A slight add-on to the Site FAQ was added. 02.16.01- I've added two reports from last Saturday's screening of True Rights to the True Rights page. 02.16.01- Jonathan and Richard went to President Bush's inauguration (thanks Gigi)
CLARK COUNTY NATIVES HEAD TO BUSH'S INAUGURATION
Actors Jonathan and Richard Lee Jackson, who went against the popular
liberal establishment in Hollywood to support George W. Bush during
his successful presidential campaign, are among thousands spending
the weekend in Washington, D.C., at the invitation of the president-
elect.
The brothers, who lived in Battle Ground before moving to Los
Angeles to pursue their acting careers, are participating in a youth
gathering today and will attend the inauguration and several galas
Saturday.
They left Thursday from Los Angeles and are expected to return
Sunday.
Jonathan, 18, won three Emmys for his role as Lucky Spencer on
ABC's "General Hospital." He also co-starred with Michelle Pfeiffer
and Treat Williams in the movie "Deep End of the Ocean."
Richard, 21, played Ryan Parker on the NBC television
series "Saved by the Bell: The New Class," has had a recurring role
on Lifetime's series "Any Day Now," and will be at the Sundance Film
Festival next week where his latest film, "Madison," will premiere.
According to Rick Jackson, the boys' father, Jonathan and Richard
first met Bush about 18 months ago. After subsequent meetings during
the next year, they agreed to be part of President-elect Bush's "A
Team," a group of actors supporting the Republican's campaign.
02.16.01- Gigi made a slideshow of Lucky and Laura to the tune of "Yesterday"
02.13.01- True Rights screened at the AngelCiti Film Festival to a standing room only, very enthusiastic crowd last Saturday in Hollywood. Reviews to come! Please, if you went to the screening, email me and let me know what you thought of it!! 02.13.01- ALSO, the official page for True Rights has been majorly redone, and it looks awesome! Check it out! TrueRights.com
02.13.01- After much prodding, FilmThreat finally got up their review of Skeletons in the Closet, which, in my opinion, was half-assed to say the least.
SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET
“Skeletons in the Closet” works best when it tries to break free from it’s “movie-of-the-week” melodrama that chains it too often. It’s best is when it presents one of today’s most modern fears – that our children might be capable of being monsters.
Treat Williams plays the father, raising his teenaged son (Jonathan Jackson) on the New Hampshire coast. The son is rebellious, like any teenager but almost dangerously so. Prone to keeping to himself and lashing out in a violent manner, when unsolved murders begin to turn up, Dad begins to suspect that his son may be involved.
The film marks the first feature to be financed by a studio that is shot on high definition, and the format really doesn’t add or detract from the film. It’s directed by Wayne Powers, the husband part of a team that wrote the b-movie blast that was “Deep Blue Sea” and the b-movie crap that was “Valentine”. Powers gets good performances from his actors, even if the film seems hampered by a movie of the week sensibility – it needs a bit more flair to make it. Which is a shame, considering that the subject matter is timely in wake of tradgedies of Columbine as saying that maybe our children aren’t the dear little angels we think them to be. “Skeletons in the Closet” also works best when it’s playing against our expectations, as there’s some doubt as to whether or not Williams might be the disturbed one in the family. All in all, “Skeletons in the Closet” is a decent little thriller, even though it can’t break from its cliched mold when it should.
02.10.01- A J2 exclusive!! Jonathan and Richard answered some questions for us, questions submitted by you all! Enough with the small talk, here's the real deal!
02.10.01- Bigger pictures of Jon and Richard at the Hannibal premiere found on Yahoo!
02.10.01- A mention of Jonathan on Amber Tamblyn's message board:
02.10.01- It was mentioned on the WB yesterday that there is an artist that does portraits of celebrities, and then gives it to them to donate to charities to auction off. She said she was about to do one of Jonathan to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. (Thanks for the tidbit, Donna.)
02.08.01- True Rights was reviewed very positively in the winter 2000 issue of Guerilla Filmmaker, calling it a "true indie masterpiece." In it, there is also a lengthy Q&A with director, Meg Thayer. This issue, by the way, was very prominently displayed all over Park City during the festivals. :) The article is to come, but in the meantime, here's the letter from the editor from the same issue.
Editors Cut
A Bruno Derlin Piece
If you’re reading this right now, there’s a good chance you’re in Park City, Utah. But, if you’re just reading this now, you’re probably elsewhere. The point is, no matter where you are, we’re happy you’re reading this and we are there. Look around… We’ll be smiling. Our growing circulation is taking us closer to you, and bringing you closer to us. We’re here to get together and continue to promote, encourage, and support the art of filmmaking; and with that, I welcome you to our "Sixth."
I have never been more excited about the editorial content of our magazine than with this issue, which comes to you with my own, self-applied subtitle of "WomenDance." It’s been almost over a decade since Mr. Redford took the reigns of the U.S. Film Festival, bringing it in as the Sundance Film Festival, and spawning countless other similarly titled events. Taking place within the same ten-day period in Park City, are Slamdance, Lapdance, NoDance, TromaDance, and even Dances With Films. I didn’t want to feel left out, so I’ve come up with ‘WomenDance.’ Although that is not an official title for our new issue, it certainly encompasses the overall feel of the material we’re presenting this time around.
As most of you returning readers have come to notice, our magazine almost always finds a special area of focus with each new issue. Our last one, our ‘Focus on Screenwriting,’ has brought us lots of positive feedback, as well as some new international territories, by way of Tower Books. We are not just grateful. We are proud and ecstatic about being on the bookshelves in Japan, Germany, Spain, and a slew of other countries. But what really thrills the pants off of me, is the fact that folks in South Dakota are getting their hands on our ‘zine and writing us to tell us about it; and I’m not by any means suggesting that South Dakota represents a forgotten territory. I’m just surprised at the amount of people living in South Dakota who are into ‘guerrilla’ filmmaking. It’s gorgeous. Okay, back to our ‘WomenDance’ issue. We’ve got a wonderful slate of new writers lending their thoughts and scribblings. I’d like to welcome and thank everyone who contributed to this issue from Cinewomen NY, and the returning writers who have squeezed some extra special effort to make the deadlines required to get this new issue to the printing press on time.
Our "Sixth" offers two very exclusive interviews. The first is with filmmaker Meg Thayer, whose film True Rights (reviewed in this issue) is making the festival rounds, picking up accolades and praise along the way. The second one, conducted by our very own Chris Nizza (who himself is a film editor), is with Camilla Toniolo, the ‘cutting’ talent behind many of Tom DiCillo’s films, including his most recent, Double Whammy, which premieres this year at Sundance. Francesca Rizzo, thespian, writer, filmmaker, and president of Cinewomen NY, tells us what that organization is all about and gives us her thoughts on Lina Wertmüller, our "Focus On…" for this issue. Our "Independent Vision" column takes us into the ‘strange days’ of Kathryn Bigelow, and of course, our cover story, a piece on Reese, is the subject of our "Acting Independent," or what I now refer to as ‘Maribel’s Corner.’ As usual, Calogero bitches and complains about the lack of horror entries in our "Look Back At…" column, this time around dedicated to Nancy Savoca’s romantic comedy, True Love. And, Mark, or that mass of nerve cells — that nail-biting energy hound we call our publisher — gives us ten things to do, other than watch films, in Park City. Newcomer Mindy Weisberger takes a look at Look Here! A Portrait of Sylvia Sleigh on her maiden GF outing, and finally, a bunch of films are reviewed for banana consideration.
Other newcomers to our GF staff are joining the team from ‘behind-the-scenes.’ Frequent contributor Charlie Iacono has taken the task of handling our ‘editorial research,’ so that dates, names, and statistical figures are checked and double-checked for accuracy. David "the underlord" Zambito is sporting the garb of ‘production coordinator’ to ensure better handling of deadlines for content and advertising. While Carlo Castronovo is our new ‘man about town’ in Los Angeles, where he heads our ‘West Coast Sales’ division. In an effort to improve my own approach to editing the content in this magazine, I’m drinking a lot more coffee and rinsing my eyes on a more frequent basis to avoid slipping in a word like "though" instead of "thought," or leaving out a "t" from "formatting." We apologize for those errors and for any others we might have missed. Hmmm… But there is a pattern forming here. Why is it that both misspellings involve a missing "t"? Jus a thought… Oops. Have fun.

02.08.01- There was a small blurb about On the Edge in the LA Times last month in their 2001 movie sneak peak:
ON THE EDGE
02.08.01- Here's a new page on Jonathan:
02.03.01- A special opportunity made possible by the awesome makers of True Rights! On the day of the screening, be the first to mention to Meg Thayer (director) or Leon Gladstone (producer) that you found out about the screening on J2, and get 2 FREE TICKETS to the movie showing! Here is the info on the screening again: 02.03.01- Found these pictures of Jonathan and Richard at the premiere of Hannibal 2/1 in Westwood over at wireimage.com. Love the last one!
02.03.01- For those of you who don't frequent SoapZone, there is a group over there called the "Purists" that are dedicated to the original and ONLY Lucky Spencer. They've started a petition to express to the powers that be their disappointment in the ruination of the character since Jonathan's departure. Give it a read and sign it if you agree. 02.03.01- I went to the library the other day to read Sam Shepard's True West (the play that Jonathan and Richard did at the LAMEC event). I would love to see them do this play! It's funny as heck, and I just get such a kick out of imagining the Jackson brothers in these roles. I've typed up the first scene from the play and posted it on the LAMEC event page. Go check it out!
02.03.01- Soap mag mentions (Thanks, Maria!)
02.03.01- Jonathan and Richard's official page was updated yesterday. They have extended the deadline to order a copy of the benefit concert video.
02.01.01- Please note the following correction. The screening of True Rights will be on the 10th of February, *not* the 8th, at the AngelCiti Film Festival in Hollywood, California.
02.01.01- Here's an old chat with Rebecca Herbst where she mentions Jonathan a few times:
bonasika asks: Do you like the new or the old Lucky better?
devilicious_80 asks: Is it really uncomfortable doing a kissing scene with so many people watching?
agentdeeps asks: do you have a favorite scene from the show, or are there just so many episodes that they all seem the same? 02.01.01- The JJ Calendar has been updated for the month of February. I've also added a Site Index to J2.
