Delirious Experience Star-Studded Los Angeles, California
While in Los Angeles for their performance at the infamous Greek Theater
this weekend, Delirious met with quite a celebrity turnout. Cast member,
Dirk Bean, from CBS's pandemonium-inducing show "Survivor" turned out to
catch tunes from Delirious' new album "GLO" and chat with the guys
backstage. And, Actor Jonathan Jackson (General Hospital, Deep End of the
Ocean with Michelle Pfeiffer) brought his entire family of five out to see
Delirious play and got a chance to say hello beforehand.
11.20.00- Here's a semi-new article on Jonathan and Richard from their local paper up in Washington:
THE JACKSON 2
Monday, October 23, 2000
They've been tagged as two of Hollywood's hottest hunks.
But there's more to brothers Jonathan and Richard Lee Jackson. They've already have accomplished more in the seven years they've lived in Los Angeles than some veteran actors will experienced in a lifetime.
Jonathan, 18, has his three Emmys sitting on a television stand in the Los Angeles apartment he shares with older brother.
And Richard was personally picked by Hollywood mogul David E. Kelly for the role of a young love interest for television's most quirky and lovable lawyer, Ally McBeal.
The two brothers, who split time between Los Angeles and the parents' home in Battle Ground, have had dozens of guest appearances on television series, have starred in several major motion pictures and branched out to write screenplays and direct short films.
Now they've added being members of a rock band to their impressive resumes.
The Jacksons have joined forces with their father, Rick, and uncle Gary Jackson, to form the band Scarlet Road. The group is named after a garage band Rick had as a teen in the 1970s.
To make it a complete family affair, Jonathan and Richard's sister Candice, a second-year law student at Pepperdine University, will sing with the band in a benefit concert Saturday at Benson High School in Portland.
Proceeds from the event will be used to help street kids and the homeless, according to the family members.
"It's hard to describe our music," said Jonathan, who is the lead singer. "It's like U2. It was hard to narrow it down and describe their music. I guess you'd call it some form of rock but we also sing soft ballads with piano."
The band recorded a CD called "God Candy" that is available through Amazon.com.
Using the name of God in the title was no accident for the Jacksons, who said they face daily challenges of keeping their faith in the environment and business of Hollywood.
Religion has been a moving force for the Jackson brothers, especially in the past 12 months.
Balancing their convictions with the demands of acting is tricky. Especially when People magazine named Jonathan one of its 50 most beautiful people in 1999 and included both brothers in its "sexiest men" issue last November.
In that issue, they had to discuss how they handle dating, their ideal women and what makes each of them sexy.
"You get used to answering those kind of questions here in Los Angeles," Richard said. "You expect it here."
What they didn't expect was how quickly success would arrive.
The brothers moved to Los Angeles in 1993 with their mother, Jeanine, and within six months Jonathan had won the role of Lucky Spencer on the soap "General Hospital." He won three Emmys for his work on the show (he also was nominated another three times).
Guest appearances on other shows followed, and Jonathan was picked for a plum role of a troubled boy opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in the motion picture "The Deep End of the Ocean."
He recently completed filming on a movie in Ireland. "Skeletons in the Closet," also stars Linda Hamilton and Treat Williams.
Richard got his break in the NBC comedy "Saved by the Bell: The New Class," but his most memorable role to date, and what may have helped elevate him to heartthrob status, was his role on the television series "Ally McBeal."
Richard was the love interest for the lead character, who was 10 years older. The two characters kissed several times in the one-hour season-opening premiere.
"It was a little uncomfortable at first," Richard said of kissing on screen. "Basically, you go there and meet with a shake of the hand and then they tell you to kiss with 20 or 30 people standing around."
A passion for acting drew the brothers to Southern California. But directing and writing screenplays may be the reason they stay in the business.
The two recently starred in feature film "True Rights," which won best feature film and director's ward in the second annual Brooklyn Film Festival.
The Jackson's also entered their own short film, "Crystal Clear," which they co-wrote and co-directed. "Crystal Clear" earned the brothers the Coen Brothers Award for duo filmmaking and the award for best drama narrative short film.
Despite all the accolades the Jacksons have received in their short seven years in Hollywood, the brothers say their best work probably came while the two lived in the family home in Battle Ground.
"Jonathan and I are best friends now," Richard said. "but it wasn't always like that. There was a time when we didn't get along at all. One time, Jonathan hit me over the head with a hockey stick and I needed several stitches."
Jeanine and Rick Jackson told their boys it was time to show just how good they were at acting.
"They told us if we couldn't get along, we needed to at least pretend we like each other," Richard said. "So that's what we did. We acted like we liked each other.
"It was probably some of the best acting we've done."

Loralei: Okay let's get back to the point. What do you think about the whole Liz/Lucky kissing thing?

11.07.00- More information on Jonathan and Richard on Personally Speaking:
November 10
"Sold Out for Christ," is the best way to describe these young actors. The two brothers, who are getting noticed a lot in Hollywood these days, talk about their relationship with God and how they balance their moral values while seeking prize roles. For these two young men, proclaiming the gospel is not just a fad, but a way of life. "People are hungry to hear about God and Jesus," says Richard, better known for his television roles on Ally McBeal, Saved by the Bell: The New Class, and Boy Meets World.
As for his younger brother Jonathan, being born-again is everything to him. His spirituality means more to him than his acting career. "I'd rather be digging ditches and praising Jesus than on a movie [set] and be too afraid to say what he's done for me. It's not worth it." Viewers may remember Jonathan for his role as Lucky on the long-running soap opera General Hospital. Jonathan's recent projects include Deep End of the Ocean and Catch the Sun. In 1999 People magazine voted him as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World.
The brothers credit much of their success to their supportive, faith-centered family.
