The Walls, news .......last updated -11/10/2000

"Some kind of a Girl" is the new single taken from The Walls acclaimed debut album Hi-Lo. The single also features 3 new tunes one of which is a brilliant remix of the A-side by band member Carl Harms. "Some kind of a Girl" has been re-mixed by Dubliner Ger McDonnell who has just finished working with producer Mike Hedges on a number of tracks on the new U2 album as well as a couple of Travis hits.

Three songs from Hi-Lo, "Something's Wrong", "Chestnut" and "Bone Deep" are to be included in a new Universal film "On the Edge" alongside tracks from Smashing Pumpkins, David Gray and Placebo to name a few. The film is produced by Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father) and directed by Dubliner John Carney. It premieres at Robert Redford's Sundance festival next January and then goes on general release across the U.S.

From an interview with the band's lead singer:
SW: Basically, America and Europe is what we're going to concentrate on in the New Year. There's a film being premiered in January, Jim Sheridan produced it. It's called "On the Edge" and the premiere is at the Sundance Film festival. They've got three songs off our album on the soundtrack. So we're hoping that might spark off something, it might give us a bit of leverage. It seems to be a good soundtrack, they've got Placebo, Therapy?, David Gray, the Frames are on it as well. They seem to be going for a soundtrack album, kind of Romeo and Juliet vibe. If we can also get a couple of songs onto the soundtrack it would give us leverage over there. We've also got to work on getting a manager.

You can listen to sound clips of The Walls on their official site: www.thewalls.ie

AND...does this mean that the movie is going to be premiering at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in January?!?! Remember everyone, final acceptances into the festival will be posted on www.sundance.org on December 1st!

11.28.00- Head on over to the About.com GH message boards and read all about Tanchi's chance encounter with Jonathan at a recent Blazers basketball game in Portland!! Here's a snippet:

I went to the Blazer game tonight (11/25) and who should sit literally behind me, as in his knees knocking up against the back of my head, but JJ!?! You guys, he is soo sweet! he took the time to autograph a piece of paper that i found at the bottom of my purse and was really great! i kept apologizing, as he was there with his dad and brother(s) and a girl who looked like she might have been dating one of the brothers. he kept telling me it was alright, told me about his love of carmel popcorn and we talked about GH for a little bit during half time. Even his dad was sweet. When JJ asked me what my name was, his ada was like, "Oh, we have a very good family friend named Andrea. It's such a lovely name..." the entire family was sweet. I tried not to bother them, as i figured he would want to be pretty mellow and as "regular" as possible, but he did say goodbye to me at the end of the game and even called me by name, which i thought was sweet, as he wasn't obligated to do that.

Read the entire thread HERE. Don't miss out...lots more crucial details are given, including that he now has a tiny goatee! Eeks! LOL

Delirious Experience Star-Studded Los Angeles, California
October 16th, 2000

While in Los Angeles for their performance at the infamous Greek Theater this weekend, Delirious met with quite a celebrity turnout. Cast member, Dirk Bean, from CBS's pandemonium-inducing show "Survivor" turned out to catch tunes from Delirious' new album "GLO" and chat with the guys backstage. And, Actor Jonathan Jackson (General Hospital, Deep End of the Ocean with Michelle Pfeiffer) brought his entire family of five out to see Delirious play and got a chance to say hello beforehand.

THE JACKSON 2
BATTLE GROUND BROTHERS WORK TO STAY GROUNDED IN FAITH AND FAMILY AS THEIR ENTERTAINMENT CAREERS TAKE OFF

Monday, October 23, 2000
By MIKE BAILEY, Columbian staff writer

They've been tagged as two of Hollywood's hottest hunks.

But there's more to brothers Jonathan and Richard Lee Jackson. They've already have accomplished more in the seven years they've lived in Los Angeles than some veteran actors will experienced in a lifetime.

Jonathan, 18, has his three Emmys sitting on a television stand in the Los Angeles apartment he shares with older brother.

And Richard was personally picked by Hollywood mogul David E. Kelly for the role of a young love interest for television's most quirky and lovable lawyer, Ally McBeal.

The two brothers, who split time between Los Angeles and the parents' home in Battle Ground, have had dozens of guest appearances on television series, have starred in several major motion pictures and branched out to write screenplays and direct short films.

Now they've added being members of a rock band to their impressive resumes.

The Jacksons have joined forces with their father, Rick, and uncle Gary Jackson, to form the band Scarlet Road. The group is named after a garage band Rick had as a teen in the 1970s.

To make it a complete family affair, Jonathan and Richard's sister Candice, a second-year law student at Pepperdine University, will sing with the band in a benefit concert Saturday at Benson High School in Portland.

Proceeds from the event will be used to help street kids and the homeless, according to the family members.

"It's hard to describe our music," said Jonathan, who is the lead singer. "It's like U2. It was hard to narrow it down and describe their music. I guess you'd call it some form of rock but we also sing soft ballads with piano."

The band recorded a CD called "God Candy" that is available through Amazon.com.

Using the name of God in the title was no accident for the Jacksons, who said they face daily challenges of keeping their faith in the environment and business of Hollywood.

Religion has been a moving force for the Jackson brothers, especially in the past 12 months.

Balancing their convictions with the demands of acting is tricky. Especially when People magazine named Jonathan one of its 50 most beautiful people in 1999 and included both brothers in its "sexiest men" issue last November.

In that issue, they had to discuss how they handle dating, their ideal women and what makes each of them sexy.

"You get used to answering those kind of questions here in Los Angeles," Richard said. "You expect it here."

What they didn't expect was how quickly success would arrive.

The brothers moved to Los Angeles in 1993 with their mother, Jeanine, and within six months Jonathan had won the role of Lucky Spencer on the soap "General Hospital." He won three Emmys for his work on the show (he also was nominated another three times).

Guest appearances on other shows followed, and Jonathan was picked for a plum role of a troubled boy opposite Michelle Pfeiffer in the motion picture "The Deep End of the Ocean."

He recently completed filming on a movie in Ireland. "Skeletons in the Closet," also stars Linda Hamilton and Treat Williams.

Richard got his break in the NBC comedy "Saved by the Bell: The New Class," but his most memorable role to date, and what may have helped elevate him to heartthrob status, was his role on the television series "Ally McBeal."

Richard was the love interest for the lead character, who was 10 years older. The two characters kissed several times in the one-hour season-opening premiere.

"It was a little uncomfortable at first," Richard said of kissing on screen. "Basically, you go there and meet with a shake of the hand and then they tell you to kiss with 20 or 30 people standing around."

A passion for acting drew the brothers to Southern California. But directing and writing screenplays may be the reason they stay in the business.

The two recently starred in feature film "True Rights," which won best feature film and director's ward in the second annual Brooklyn Film Festival.

The Jackson's also entered their own short film, "Crystal Clear," which they co-wrote and co-directed. "Crystal Clear" earned the brothers the Coen Brothers Award for duo filmmaking and the award for best drama narrative short film.

Despite all the accolades the Jacksons have received in their short seven years in Hollywood, the brothers say their best work probably came while the two lived in the family home in Battle Ground.

"Jonathan and I are best friends now," Richard said. "but it wasn't always like that. There was a time when we didn't get along at all. One time, Jonathan hit me over the head with a hockey stick and I needed several stitches."

Jeanine and Rick Jackson told their boys it was time to show just how good they were at acting.

"They told us if we couldn't get along, we needed to at least pretend we like each other," Richard said. "So that's what we did. We acted like we liked each other.

"It was probably some of the best acting we've done."

11.20.00- A little mention found on SoapZone. The WB show, The Gilmore Girls, mentioned Lucky and Liz and the new vs. old Lucky on their show last Thursday. Here's a transcript:

Loralei: Oh okay great. I was watching General Hospital the other day and you know they have a new Lucky cause the old Lucky went to go play something where he could have a real name. So the old Lucky had this girlfriend Liz who thought that he died in a fire so then they bring on this new Lucky and you're all like okay I know that's not the old Lucky because the new Lucky has way more hair gel issues, but still Liz was so upset about his supposed death that you could not wait to see them kiss. You know?

Rory: When do you have time to watch General Hospital?

Loralei: Okay let's get back to the point. What do you think about the whole Liz/Lucky kissing thing?

Rory: I think they're actors being paid to play a part so it's nice that they're living up to their obligations.

Loralei: Hmmm. Rory.

11.07.00- Direct from Wayne Powers, director of Skeletons in the Closet!

The weekend that I sent the screenplay to Treat Williams for the role of Will, I watched a DVD of Deep End of the Ocean, just catching up on Treat's work, as I had not seen the film before. I was mesmerized by Jonathan in the film, kept going back to Treat and his scenes together, and kept calling my wife Donna (who co-wrote and produced skeletons) to come into the den to check this guy out. I was positive he was perfect for the role. (I had never seen General Hospital, nor did I know he had been in it.) Then when Treat called to say that he'd do the film, we were both like, let's get this to Jonathan. So rather than go through the agents, Treat called Jonathan directly, they had breakfast, and Treat gave him the script. Jonathan read it and then he and I had dinner (Mexican), talked about the role, talked about music, talked about James Dean, about the look of the film, etc. The script went to his agents and he signed on. Although many talented young actors were interested in the role, he was the only one it was offered to.

Altogether now...AWWWWWWWWWW!!! Thank you, Wayne!

November 10
Jonathan and Richard Jackson, Actors/Brothers (PS #047)

"Sold Out for Christ," is the best way to describe these young actors. The two brothers, who are getting noticed a lot in Hollywood these days, talk about their relationship with God and how they balance their moral values while seeking prize roles. For these two young men, proclaiming the gospel is not just a fad, but a way of life. "People are hungry to hear about God and Jesus," says Richard, better known for his television roles on Ally McBeal, Saved by the Bell: The New Class, and Boy Meets World.

As for his younger brother Jonathan, being born-again is everything to him. His spirituality means more to him than his acting career. "I'd rather be digging ditches and praising Jesus than on a movie [set] and be too afraid to say what he's done for me. It's not worth it." Viewers may remember Jonathan for his role as Lucky on the long-running soap opera General Hospital. Jonathan's recent projects include Deep End of the Ocean and Catch the Sun. In 1999 People magazine voted him as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World.

The brothers credit much of their success to their supportive, faith-centered family.
